Okrapalooza was a tasty hit this past Sunday as many chefs and home cooks gathered to create the most interesting use of okra ever thought possible. From the sweet to the savory, these kitchen masters made their favorite okra dishes to benefit the Promise of Peace Garden. Promise of Peace offers neighborhood children classes in horticulture, summer camp and education in nutrition through their community garden. They also provide opportunities for families to access a better life through participating in our cooking and gardening classes and other events.
This year’s event was by far the most successful than in past years with serious chefs rallying for the cause. Chef Thomas Archer from 3015 and his sous chefs team “Okra Winfrey” took first place this year. It was a difficult event to challenge with so many imaginative entries.
